Current skincare routine + product reviews

I decided at the start of the year that I would actually start to look after my skin and get into some sort of routine, and I am doing okay (well I think).
I have always been dubious about putting products such as cleansers and creams on my face as I have very sensitive skin due to having mild Keratosis Pilaris (look it up, it is very common). Luckily, I don’t have KP on my legs like some people but on on the other hand I do have it on my face and backs of my arms which sucks. So anyway, if I put anything on my skin that is too harsh it will flare up and my skin ends up a burgundy colour (no exaggeration). So as I was saying, I decided to try a few products because I thought that, although there is no cure for KP, there would surely be some cleanser out there that my skin doesn’t throw a hissy fit at!
I’m going to start with what I do with my face morning and night and then include mini reviews of the products.

Daily Essentials 2 in 1 Toner and Cleanser
Okay so in the morning I cleanse/tone my face with Daily Essentials 2 in 1 Cleanser and Toner. I bought the 2 in 1 because 1. to save time and 2. I didn’t want to buy two products and they make my skin flare up, that’d be a waste. However I think the 2 in 1 is really great and it makes me feel really clean and fresh in the morning. I am probably going to repurchase the separate cleanser and toner when this runs out. I can’t really comment much on this product as I haven’t regularly used a cleanser/toner in the past to compare it to, but it seems to be doing a good job!

Positives

Clean and fresh skin, not irritating

Affordable

Negatives

Simple Hydrating Light Moisturiser
Next I use Simple Hydrating Light Moisturiser, but only a tiny bit around my nose and the dry areas of my face. I originally bought the Nivea Tinted Day Moisturiser but I found it was too dark for my skin tone, so I dug this out from a set I got for Christmas. I really like this moisturiser because it does feel really light on my skin, which is perfect for daytime. What I will point out though is that I am not even half way through the product and I am already having difficulties with the squeezy bottle.

Positives

Light, perfect day moisturiser

Kind to skin

Negatives

Squeezy bottle

Nivea Daily Essentials Regenerating Night Cream
At night I cleanse/tone and use Nivea Daily Essentials Regenerating Night Cream. Again a very very light layer as it is a night cream and therefore quite heavy. I find this quite moisturising but my face feels sticky in the morning, I’m not sure if this is normal but I don’t like it that much. However when I apply it at night it cools my skin after removing my make up.
Oh that reminds me, I remove my make up with Morrison’s Sensitive Make Up Wipes, but there’s not much point in showing those and also I ran out today!

Positives
Moisturising
Affordable, good value (there’s loads)

Negatives

Sticky face in the morning.

Okay so I will just quickly tell you about my “body” routine haha. It’s pretty simple, again my skin is quite sensitive so I have to be careful and also I need a good moisturiser after shaving my legs.

Dove Essential Nourishment Body Lotion

This picture is a bit rubbish, I do apologise!

Anyway so I usually use Dove Essential Nourishment Body Lotion after every shower unless I am in a rush, and I always always use it after shaving. I did do a short spiel about this in my February Favourites so I wont go into too much depth. I just really love this and I always trust brands like Dove and Nivea, I don’t know why! Plus, it’s affordable and you get quite a lot of product!

Positives

Moisturising
Cooling for sensitive skin

Negatives

Nivea Body Sunkissed Skin Gradual Tanning Body Moisturiser + Firming Care

I thought I would add this in as I am starting to use it now that Spring is getting underway! I’m not a major “tan fan” but I do like my legs to look a bit more coloured. I don’t know why as I never show them in public anyway! I have used Johnson’s Holiday Skin previously to this one but I always found it really tricky and that it built up on your knees really easy. I haven’t found this with this one as I find it is more gradual, and that suits my needs I guess. It does smell a bit though but I think all of the gradual tanners do!

Positives
Does what it says on the “tin”
Affordable

Negatives

The smell?

Palmers Cocoa Butter Formula Massage Lotion for Stretch Marks

Okay so I already did a huge spiel on this on my February Favourites. But overall:

Positives

Soft on skin
The bottle is easy to use

Negatives

Hasn’t done much
The smell

I hoped you liked this post, I know it wasn’t glamorous and high-end, but this is my routine and I felt like sharing it with you. Sorry if I grossed you out with all my weird skin issues, but I hope that this post will help some people in the same boat as me! Also, if you have any recommendations for me, or others please share!

  1. I use Simple Hydrating Light Moisturiser as well and the bottle drives me mad as well, I stopped using Nivea products as I find the smell too much and they tend to leave my skin feeling really greasy, shame because other people find them great!
