Trying My Hand at Cocktail Making

When Jenny Barrett and I first came up with the idea for #HullFoodie, we fully expected to be writing mainly about the independent eateries in Hull. Nevertheless, we were curious to see what huge pub chain Yates has to offer to the already bustling city centre.

Yates kindly invited a few of the Hull Bloggers to join them on their VIP opening night. We sampled their new menu of food and try our hands at cocktail making.

Pretty much perfectly located smack bang in the middle of Old Town, Yates is sure to be a hotspot for Saturday night pre-drinks with the girls and a cheeky post work cocktail. And with 2 for 1 on cocktail glasses, all day every day – why not!

The food menu looks incredible too. Whilst traditional meals, such as Cumberland sausage and mash and chilli con carne will see you through the cold winter nights, they also serve some unexpected dishes like roast vegetable chorizo flatbreads, crispy calamari and loaded gourmet fries.

In the meantime, their sharing menu would go down a treat before hitting the town. In short, the menu looks great for those wanting a hearty meal, and would be ideal if you needed a pick-me-up after a heavy night. All-day breakfast anyone? Yes please!

Jenny and I managed to sample a few of their treats as they were brought round. I particularly loved the BBQ sausage and mini fish and chips that were adorably wrapped in newspaper.

It was then time to try out some of the delicious drinks. Jenny even managed to persuade one of the bartenders to let me make my own Sex on the Beach!

I didn’t do too badly, but I’m definitely not cool enough to be a bar lady.

I thoroughly enjoyed my night at Yates, they truly looked after us. I know a lot of people may turn their noses up at chain restaurants like this, but I feel like a lot of these types of pubs are moving with the times to create incredible experiences.

Yates has just opened on Trinity House Lane, Hull. Whilst we did receive free food to review, all opinions remain my own. Please read my disclaimer for more information.

If you didn’t know already, #HullFoodie is a project by the Hull Bloggers. We aim to showcase the delicious food and eateries that are in Hull in the run up to and during Hull UK City of Culture 2017.
