Although I still love the world of vintage, it’s not something I write about often on this blog anymore. I know quite a few retro bloggers out there, so thought it would be great to feature them on my blog, asking them a few simple questions about what vintage style means to them.
If you’re a vintage or retro blogger (or just love style from the past) get in touch via Twitter, leave a comment below or email me [email protected] and you could see your beautiful face here.
This week, I interviewed Megan from The Vintage Beauty Spot.
I absolutely love her blog, because it’s something a bit different y’ano? From Cleopatra tutorials, DIY corsets, historical places and philosophical questions about vintage beauty, her blog is full of unique ideas and inspiring articles that are right up my street.
So, without further ado, I’ll let Megan do the talking.
When did you first get into vintage clothing?
Megan: I think it was just after sixth form. I became overwhelmed with the fashion’s expectations and all the new trends, which I wasn’t really a fan of. I think the vintage love honestly came from trailing through Pinterest and I fell in love with the elegance of the different styles and how fashions changed. I then started researching different styles in more detail and began going into charity shops and antique places and it slowly built up!
I think it was around the same time for me actually, what exactly is it about vintage or style from the past that interests you?
M: I love the story behind the clothes. Getting a ‘new’ vintage piece always makes me wonder who owned it previously, who were they, what were they like?
Me, too! This is why I want a vintage wedding dress (if ever I get married).
M: Most clothes were handmade or bought and adapted to keep up with the times or ‘refresh’ limited clothes. The skills people had in doing this fascinates me. Especially in the 30s and 40s when all of society were limited with their resources – but always managed to look amazing.
I know, it’s incredible. And here’s me barely managing a messy bun and leggings on a Monday morning! What’s your favourite era then?
M: I like all eras from the 1800s all the way up to the 60s. I like incorporating different elements into my looks, like the 1940s hair with the 50’s polka dots or a modern yet 60s inspired A-line skirt.
I think I probably have a soft spot for the 1930s, the simple dresses and floral tones make them easy to wear all year round.
Lastly, what does vintage mean to you and your identity?
M: I feel more comfortable wearing a vintage style – I think it reflects my passion for history and how values of the past shape experiences of today.

In the meantime, do you have a passion for retro and vintage? You don’t have to be a blogger, just get in touch either on Twitter or via my email ([email protected]) and you could be featured.
