July | A Month in Pictures (and a few words)

July started out to be a very uneventful but busy month. I've basically been at work, at the gym and getting ready to move out! It has paid off however as I have managed to save up for a holiday and lose a few pounds. I ended the month celebrating with Lucy from 'LucyJaneWebb' at her lovely wedding and spending some time with my family and friends in Lincoln. August is my birth month so I have lots planned including a trip to Amsterdam and afternoon birthday tea in York with my girls!
1. eBay winnings 2. Delicious chicken and salad 3. Nights out with great friends 4. Red lipstick! 5. Getting healthy 6. Wedding selfie
Other things I've been up to this month include a lovely day out in Bridlington, starting to watch Game of Thrones and finally watching all the Harry Potters! (Finally feeling a part of my own generation!)
1. Summery outfit posts 2. More delicious food - salmon, stir fried veg and quinoa/rice 3. Selfies at Lucy's wedding 4. Selfies in Bridlington
How has your July been? Are you enjoying the sun?

The Best of the Dorothy Perkins Summer Sale

Dorothy Perkins Summer Sale

by courtneyfarrow

There are a few things in life I love more than a sale (ever wonder why it was retro AND THRIFT?) so here's my best picks from the current Dorothy Perkins sale! Thank me later.

1. BEACH/DAY DRESSES

Dorothy Perkins have some amazing day dresses on offer my favourite is probably the Watermelon Sundress which would be perfect for a day on the beach or a picnic in the park. Other dresses that caught my eye was the Polka Dot Bandea Dress, brilliant to slip on around the pool, the Pinstripe Pinny Dress and the one featured in the first picture - the Ivory Rose Cami Dress. They're all under £15 in the sale so it wont matter as much if you get sand on them!

2. BARDOT TOPS

A bardot top is a great way to add a retro twist to any outfit! DP have a few on sale including a black and mint green or if you fancy something a bit more intricate they also have a gorgeous pink lace bardot!

3. SKIRTS

Dorothy Perkins never fail to disappoint me when it comes to skirts. I love their midi skirts especially, they nip you in at the waist giving a very 1940s/50s feel! My favourite at the moment is their Meadow Floral Midi Skirt but I also think that their Ruby Rocks Plaid Midi could be a great summer staple. Another mid-century favourite is the pencil skirt and DP have a lovely daisy print one for just £12.80

4. SHORTS

I always feel anything high-waisted gives a lovely vintage feel and I managed to find a few high-waist shorts whilst browsing the sale. I settled on three favourites, the tropical ones give a great "tiki" vibe and I could definitely see myself in the red floral pair on a hot day; the denim pair are a summer must-have for festivals and travelling!

5. SUNGLASSES

No summer post would be complete without sunglasses!  I especially love the Extreme Cateye pair as well as the 70s style Cateye style that comes in Rose and in Tortoise.

6. OCCASION DRESSES

Finally I thought I'd add in some occassion dresses. Summer is usually the season for dressing up, whether it be at weddings, the races or summer proms and balls. DP have some stunning ones on offer including my this gorgeous Green Shimmer Maxi Dress and going along with the metallic theme this blush and silver pleated dress. For a summer wedding I feel this gorgeous Billie and Blossom Floral Pleat Dress or the Floral Maxi Dress would look amazing. Last but not least I spotted this gorgeous Polka Dot Pencil dress for those who want to go all out with a classic 1950s look!

End of Year Ball Vol.2

I cannot believe I've finished my second year of University! It is such a strange feeling as it seems just last week that I packed my bags and moved to Hull but then I feel I've known these people all my life! Here are some pictures from my End of Year Ball last month to mark the end of another chapter. I was hoping to get some better pictures of the amazing Under the Sea themed ball but after a bottle of wine this blog post was the last thing on my mind!

Also I'd like to mention that I managed to wear heels for most of the night (I really hate wearing them so it was an achievement!) but the only photo that you can see my shoes in I was wearing flats which is super annoying!

One Of Your Five A Day

Back with another outfit post today and this time it's all about pineapples. I love fruity prints and this skirt is no exception. I bought it from Primark a while back and it never really fitted me, but now I can get in it! It seems like the sweating in the gym is paying off after all. I'm also wearing a black crop from H&M with a necklace that was gifted to me from my best friend a few years back (I believe it was from Judy's Affordable Vintage Fair). The shoes are from ASOS and are the most painful shoes to walk in ever.

As I took these photos the same day as my last outfit post (hey, don't blame a girl for making the most of the sunny weather and body confidence), I am wearing the same very simple retro inspired makeup with unstyled hair! The lipstick I'm wearing is my go-to red shade - Lady Danger by MAC.

Monochrome Summer

I haven't done an outfit post in a really long time because nowadays I spend my time in leggings and a baggy top for either work, the gym or lounging around watching Netflix. But today I thought I'd make an effort and dress up for you guys!

I'm wearing all 'modern' stuff today but this outfit definitely has a retro twist to it. This skirt is from Dorothy Perkins and I adore it as it's versatile and can be worn all year round! The top is from New Look and although I've not yet braved the outside world in it as it shows my dreaded mid-drift I think it goes perfectly with the skirt. Hey maybe a few more weeks of leggings and the gym may finally pay off so I can comfortably wear this ensemble out!

Since I've gone dark with my hair I do like to add a little bit of colour to my outfits so this blue and gold cameo necklace I picked up at Lou Lou's Vintage Fair. The shoes are years old from International which I'm not even sure still exists (do enlighten me as I loved that shop).

For makeup this is rather heavy for weather that is touching 30 degrees but I did keep the foundation light, mixing it it moisturiser and red lipstick is obviously essential for any retro inspired outfit even if it is a bit wonky and melty! I try not to put much heat on my hair in this sort of weather so today I let my hair do its own thing and it turned out to be quite forgiving.

Here are some links to the items I'm wearing or similar items to what I'm wearing:
